Parenthood in the 21st Century

Mother's Day Sans the Kids

Twenty years ago, I saw L'Allegro, il Penseroso ed il Moderato when the Mark Morris Dance Group performed at Zellerbach Hall on the UC Berkeley campus. This dance production is humorous, delightful and devastatingly beautiful.
The Mark Morris Dance Group will be performing L'Allegro, il Penseroso ed il Moderato at the Dorothy Chandler Pavillion on Mother's Day. The Mark Morris Dance Group rarely performs in Los Angeles and I would like to attend the performance. This performance is not to be missed, but my husband and children think otherwise.

Forcing my family to attend a dance recital is asking a lot (even on Mommy's Day).

Am I a bad mom if I spend Mother's Day sans the kids?

In my defense, here is video of the Mark Morris Dance Group by The Sadler's Wells Theater, London:

Baby Knits - FO for Easter

Here's my latest finished object = a bunny hat for my baby cousin's first Easter. This super easy Baby Bunny Hat pattern by Rebecca Lennox is a free download on Ravelry. The yarn is Bernat Softee Chunky in colors Natural and Pale Antique Rose. I had trouble with the ears and ended up knitting the colored ears separately and single crocheting the natural and pink ears together. This bunny hat is a quick knit and a fun Easter gift for baby.

My Knitting Time: The Knitting Arsenal

I am a working mom. TiVo and knitting keep me sane. My house is quiet after 10 p.m. when the kids are asleep. Quiet time is my time to knit and watch bad TV or R rated movies.
In 2010, I did not knit a single thing. In January 2011, I picked up the needles and cast on after a one year hiatus. It has been three months and I've made knitting a priority in my life. Knitting has become my favorite creative outlet outside of work. When I knit, I am happy.

These are the things I keep close while knitting:
1. ribbed socks on Magic Loop
2. Clover stitch counter
3. cup of Mighty Leaf green tea
4. CurlyWurly candy bar
5. Netflix DVD (Carlos: Miniseries)

I hope you're happy too!

Big shout out to all the bloggers who participated in the 2nd Annual Knitting & Crochet Blog Week 2011.

Something to Aspire To: I Dream of Clapotis

My knitting dreams are made of Kate Gilbert's Clapotis.
When I first learned to knit, I knit many scarves. I love to wear scarves, but shawls are not my style.
In 2008, I attended the Maker Faire in San Mateo, CA. While shopping at the Bazaar Bizarre I spotted a gorgeous powder blue Clapotis in the wild. The craft bazaar was so crowded, I never got the chance to compliment the owner or touch and admire her Clapotis up close. But I finally understood the cult of Clapotis and I wanted one for myself.
Three years later, I joined the Ravelry group and purchased the yarn (Dream in Color Classy in Happy Forest). I haven't had the courage to cast on yet, but I can still dream of Clapotis.

And now for something completely different

Portrait of me knitting (by my 9 year old son).
Here I am knitting a blue swatch with my cup of tea and Ravelry tote bag.
Notice I am smiling while I knit.

Happy knitting to all.
