My Son Learns to Ride a Bike

After feeling like a "bad mom" because my nine year old son still couldn't ride a bicycle; I decided this summer would be the summer of success sans training wheels. After doing some research online, I found this inspiring YouTube video by intlbike with a new technique on teaching kids to ride a bike.
The video shows an Asian woman (who looks like my Aunt) learning to ride a bicycle for the first time. If my Auntie can do it . . . so can my son! This new technique teaches kids to ride on a sloped grass lawn. The grass eliminates cement scrapes and helps kids focus primarily on balance. What's amazing is how fast this technique works.
This afternoon I took my son to the park for a bike lesson. I used the teaching technique in this video. I was shocked my son was able to balance and glide on his own in 10 minutes. He had a few minor spills, but never gave up. After 20 minutes - Bingo! He was riding the bike by himself. Where was this technique when I was a kid?!?!
If you are trying to teach your kid to ride, give it a try. It worked for my uncoordinated son. Good luck and happy cycling!

Don Quijote the Wackiest Market in Hawaii

If you are visiting Honolulu, Don Quijote market is a great place to buy cheap souvenirs and gifts to bring home. When I think of Don Quijote I think "Japanese Walmart." There is a pharmacy, produce, deli and electronics department. Don Quijote has a big selection of Hawaiian souvenirs, clothing, accessories, candy, coffee and macadamia nuts. The store is big, crowded, cheap and open 24 hours.
